The #1 Overall pick will have to wait for his debut. Blake Griffin sidelined with broken kneecap.

The curse of the ugly step child in L.A. strikes again…

It seems like forever that the L.A. Clippers have been battered with injury and misfortune as an organization that has played second fiddle to the L.A. Lakers.

Blake Griffin was, and is supposed to change all that. However, with the opening game of the season set against the big brother Lakers on Tuesday night – the Clippers revealed late Monday evening that their No. 1 overall draft pick has a broken left kneecap.

The stress fracture could sideline the collegiate star for six weeks or more, the team announced. The Clippers have promised to give further information at some point on Tuesday.

Not only will Blale miss opening night, but many more games as the Clippers have a very heavy schedule to start the season with 20 games in that 6-week time frame for Griffin’s return.

The Clippers were excited about the start of this season, as they were the most healthy they have been in years going into the fall. With point guard Baron Davis and center Chris Kaman both ready to play after missing chunks of last season. The Clippers were going to rely heavy on a solid frontcourt nucleus with Marcus Camby, Al Thornton and Rasual Butler alongside Griffin.

Blake says he’s fine and this isn’t of any major concern. He plans to be back out on the court very soon. Let’s hope for the Clippers sake this is true because Griffin is a sure fire lock to be great player. The only thing that could stop that from happening is that jinxed Clippers jersey that he will be putting on most nights in the near future.
